Beginning in 2012 with a few lavender plants, we have grown to cultivate over 20 ha of aromatic medicinal plants, with the goal of being able to produce the majority of our raw materials ourselves in the future. This guarantees not only precise quality monitoring across the entire agricultural process, but also lets us compare different cultivation models. At TaoFarm agricultural we therefore cultivate small test plots right by our company headquarters, using which we can gain valuable information on the site, soil quality and optimal point of harvest. If these “field tests” are successful, we begin cultivation on a grand scale – as we have, for example, with our lavender. With our need to fulfil the highest quality demands and act as sustainably as possible, we thus only cultivate in organic and Demeter quality. This means that we fully rely on biodynamic, natural preparations and remove weeds with care, promoting the growth of our medicinal plants in the best possible way.
Not least, the development of regional cultivation also means shortening transport routes or eliminating them completely – not only saving CO2 but also creating jobs in the local area. You can have the fruits of our labour in your hands today – our products using German lavender have been on sale for several years. If you want to get an idea of our alternative farming model, simply pay us a visit – preferably as part of one of our TaoFarm guided tours – in Lage!
With our Demeter-certified farm, we have set ourselves the goal of converting conventionally farmed arable land to Demeter farming. We are currently planting lavender, wild flowers and numerous aromatic plants such as rosemary, yarrow and lemon balm in Demeter quality on more than 20 hectares of land in Lippe.
